Brutal
This ongoing project is a personal exploration into the underappreciated beauty of modernist-era Brutalist architecture. With the ever-increasing risk of redevelopment into modern-day, repetitive buildings, it becomes continuously more important to document these time capsules of post-war modernism. The architects were inspired by the public’s resilience and ability to adapt to a new post-war world, producing buildings with a tough and defiant exterior, yet revolutionary interiors. I have focussed on the raw form and texture of ‘béton brut’ concrete, with careful consideration of light.
